I asked, and I was given.
I begged for all, but did not take You in.
Thus I sprang forth, but anon withered away.
I howled aloud from whence I thought I saw –
But my words laid bare my blindness.
If only then I knew how close I drew unto the ledge.
Yet in the fray You would not let me go. –
Must now again I resist?
Your call, as clear as though it may be read…

“Of the Word I was possessed.
It raised me from everlasting, or ever it were.
Before the depths; before the mountains, I was brought forth.
As yet earth was not made, I was there.
A witness to His compass brought to bear upon the face of the deep.
When o’re the heavens were prepared,
And to the sea was given His decree.
Oh, how I rejoiced.
My sight set clear upon the sons of men.
Therefore, hear me now, my children.
Refuse me not.
For whosoever findeth me, findeth life, and more, His favor.
But to thee who strayeth…
Folly.
Thou doth betrayeth thine own soul.”

Might I now accept…Your presence.
Your winds sweeping through the trees –
Crashing waves of distant seas, moving closer…
And closer still,
The power of Your voice increased,
Until with unanticipated grace it washeth over. –
A once quiescent lake begins to tremble.
Rippled peaks in billows blaze like candles,
Flickering an enigmatic vigil. –
Some ancient form of magic.
Mesmerizing.
A siren’s call that draws me in,
And so I swim unto its darkened center. –
There I am effaced…
My burden placed upon the alter.
Stayed in hands of a great colossus.
Genuflect;
Arms outstretched in offering –
A water black…
A mystery.
Perhaps therein lies my forgotten soul. —
